Area Health Education Centers (AHEC)

AHEC is a federal program that operates in all states of North America. It was developed for the purpose of providing education and training in healthcare professions, to improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare personnel, and to help aid in the demand for and quality of healthcare professions. Each state is divided into regions and individual Allied Health Education Centers operate within those regions. Each Center has programs that are unique to the communities they serve, but all AHECs have basic universal services. Examples of these services are health careers opportunity programs for youths, health professional recruitment, and the training of health professional students for medically under-served areas. Allied Health Education Centers are a valuable asset to the communities in which they serve and aid in the accessibility and quality of healthcare throughout America.
